review

I had accepted this as a complimentary review product for my mother's sake. She is an absolute LOVER of these topical C solutions, using them daily. And this one by COUI Skincare has some elements that do indeed put it on top of the many other competitors out there.

First thing I always glance at, with pretty much ANY product, is the ingredients listing. Listing is kind of long, but that was before I realized this was more just than your usual run-of-the-mill topical C serum. It also incorporates a host of other ingredients, such as Kelp (think facial mask base), Hydrolyzed Collagen, Vitamin B3, Lemon Extract, and more. The whole EGF thing has been around for awhile, it's discovery earning Stanley Cohen and Rita Levi-Montalcini the Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine in 1986, so the concept has had quite some time to be refined in terms of optimum mixtures.

The bottle comes with glass eyedropper, not the usual chintzy spritz top many lower priced products use, and a particularly nice touch is a easy to find, clearly printed MANUFACTURED ON date... my sample having been made on 07/10/14, a mere 10 days earlier than the writing this of review. Hah, talk about fresh!

Smelling it, I can detect the lemon extract, and although there is still a "medicinal smell" to the serum itself, it doesn't linger long. The texture is smooth almost-cream like, likely due to the hydrolyzed collagen, and does leave a slightly sticky residue; however, this is meant to be put on, wait for skin absorption, then application of skin moisturizer (or in my case, my self-concocted mixture of patchouli oil, rose water, and distilled witch hazel). The bottle does state that for best results, this should be stored in a refrigerator, once again likely due to the added elements.

All in all, COUI Skincare's Super C Serum is a serious powerhouse compared to the three other bottles of topical C serum sitting on my mother's "facial station". However, although I had initially gotten this product with my mother in mind, I think I shall be keeping it on hand to see how it works with the dark circles under my eyes that I have had for years. :P
